HIGH SCHOOL COMMITMENT

The Manitoba Wombats Rugby Club (formerly University of Manitoba Wombats) has been closely tied to the St. Paul’s High School rugby program since its inception in 1984. The St. Paul’s Crusaders have become the most successful high school rugby program in the Province with over 20 Varsity Provincial titles and many Junior Varsity titles as well.

On a yearly basis, numerous Club Members and Alumni will coach and guide up to 5 teams a year at the high-school, with well over 100 students participating in the program. Our commitment to coaching is unmatched. The level of commitment between coaches and students is what makes each and every year tremendously successful.

The St. Paul’s High School rugby program has toured all over the world including stops in North America, Great Britain, and Africa. Tours have included Ireland, Scotland, England, South Africa as well as Jesuit High School tournaments in Dallas, Texas, Connecticut, and Washington, D.C. The Crusaders have represented well over the years, collecting 7 provincial championships over the past 10 years. The St. Paul’s High School rugby program is always looking to further the rugby experience for its members by participating in tours, whether it be in country or overseas.

A result of the coach-player relationship, a large majority of St. Paul’s High School rugby players that have chosen to continue their rugby career choose to play for the Wombats Rugby Club. Fostering an enjoyable experience has helped these members represent their high school on countless Provincial Teams, with select few advancing to National Team selection. Many students have continued to nurture their passion for rugby pursuing rugby opportunities internationally in the United States, Scotland, Ireland, and Australia.
